This was the first type of internet connection available, and until recently, the most common among internet users. It is a slow connection which can be frustrating when browsing secure internet web sites. In some cases it is the only option available.

Besides its shortcomings, it could still be the perfect type of connection for the occasional internet user, like a once a month Internet Banking Transaction.

This connection is only available on demand from the user, and the time spent on the net is billed as a normal telephone call would. If not used wisely, a hefty telephone bill can be expected over and above the fixed monthly Internet Service Provider fee.

What you need:

  • Standard Telkom telephone line.
  • Analogue 56k modem.
  • Internet Service Provider.

Steps to follow:

    • Make sure your telephone line is in working condition and free of static or noise.
    • Purchase a 56k analogue Fax Modem, preferably one with some surge or lightning protection. See our accessories section on our hardware page.
    • Subscribe for our Internet Service Provider services.
